@MakerWorld I have an idea that is revolutionary and could change the world of 3D model repositories as we know it… I’d like to outline it for you and then accept all comments, criticisms, and random rude remarks that anyone feels like throwing at me. As far as I know, if implemented, MakerWorld would be the first to have something like this.
Collaborative projects, or alternatively, two designers - one model. Can you image two of the brightest designers here working on a project together? I can’t, my imagination isn’t that powerful!
Here’s how it would work:
Creation
An option in your MW profile would allow you to turn on or off if you were open to collaborations. Let’s face it, if you couldn’t turn it off @Josh-3D would be flooded with requests to collaborate daily. He would get tired of rejecting them and I would get tired of sending them. If the option was on someone could send an invite and if accepted a blank project would be opened but set to private with both creators being listed. It would show under both creators models.
Ideally this is something both creators would have already spoken about through DMs and agreed to, not just blindsided with a request to collaborate on a Hueforge with articulated legs.
Points and contests
This is the part I would love suggestions on. 50/50 on points? It would be awesome if there was a special contest badge for a “Collaborative Model” winner.
Benefits
- Being the first 3D model repository to offer it.
- Allowing creators from around the world to work together and create amazing things.
- Fostering a mentoring environment for seasoned creators to work with people who are still learning.
4. Allowing me to ride the coattails of someone smarter and much more talented than myself.
Room for growth
If it turns out to be a success maybe the option for more than two creators? I know “too many chefs spoil the broth” could be a thing with too many people though.
So what say the people?
